To see lasting effects from treatment using biologics—or more specifically Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injections—we can’t overlook the importance of exercise.
We at Geraci Spine strongly believe that the reason we are seeing 3-5 years of relief as a result of our PRP injections—compared to the 1 year of relief many other clinicians are able to achieve using the same centrifuge system—is that we incorporate exercise both before and after the injections.
In our practice, about 90% of patients are able to improve simply with the correct exercises. Dr. Geraci is not only a Physician but also a Physical Therapist (PT). And over the past 11 years he has worked on developing exercises that can help osteoarthritic (OA) joints with or without meniscal and labral tears.
Once it became clear that these exercises were making significant improvements in patients—to the point they were able to avoid injections and surgery in most cases—he trained five PTs to practice these same exercises. From there, we were able to offer a course on how to evaluate shoulder, knee, and hip joints to best diagnose OA conditions and apply the exercises Dr. Geraci developed to help patients improve without surgery and often without any type of injection. Dr. Geraci and his fellow PTs taught this course in November 2021 for the first time to 70 attendees, including a primary care sports medicine physician, a chiropractor, a personal trainer, and 67 PTs. This course will be offered again in the future, so be sure to check back if you’re interested in attending.
